You may have heard this in the news recently that a homeowner has filed a lawsuit against Zillow and the Zestimate that they gave this person’s home.

While it’s true that in certain markets and situations a Zestimate is a pretty close estimate of value, it’s not like that in Texas. We are a non-disclosure state, meaning that our official sale prices are not recorded. As a result, Zillow doesn’t have that data—causing many of their estimates to be way too high or way too low.

Zestimates should be used as a basic guide to home value. When you’re actually ready to buy or sell a home and want to know a property’s true market value, it’s best to get in touch with a professional.
